3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD POP BY MICKEY GO LOCAL AT RAFFLES CITY
by Candice Chua
The festivities for Mickey’s 90th anniversary have officially begun and right here in our Lion City, we kicked things off with Mickey Go Local, a celebration of all things Mickey, but with a good ol’ Singaporean twist. We started off with the unveiling of 90 Mickey figurines, including an extra special one painted by President Halimah Yacob, and the fun continues all through August. Here, the three reasons why you cannot miss this exclusive Mickey takeover at Raffles City.
1. YOU WON’T GET ENOUGH OF THE POP-UP STORE
If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you would have seen a pair of cushions shaped to look like the Singaporean delicacies peng kueh and nasi lemak – and these cuties are just the tip of the iceberg that is the exclusive Mickey Go Local collection! At “Mickey Mart”, you’ll find everything from lunch bags covered in patterns reminiscent of old-school ice cream carts to t-shirts with Mickey’s hand clutching a kopi can to Mickey and Minnie dressed in coolie and samsui outfits. Let’s just say you’ll have a hard time deciding what you want, because we certainly did.
2. THE 90 MICKEY FIGURINES PAINTED BY 90 SINGAPOREANS
To celebrate Mickey’s 90th anniversary, we got 90 Singaporeans, ranging from actors to directors to artists, to put their own local spin on the one and only Mickey Mouse. Take a stroll across the first level of Raffles City to see how many well-known Singaporean icons you can spot on these one-of-a-kind Mickeys. We’ve got satays, ondeh ondeh, the famous “Dragon Playground”, Chinese opera, orchids, Merlions – this is Mickey Go Local, indeed! Don’t forget the selfies!
3. THERE’S ALSO AN OLD-SCHOOL STYLE MICKEY CORNER
Speaking of selfies, what is an event like that without plenty of Instagram opportunities? Shimmy over to Mickey Corner, where the classic Singaporean shophouse is given a Mickey and Minnie makeover i.e. the perfect backdrop for you next ‘gram. We especially love the Peranakan style tiles with a giant smiling Mickey right in the middle. So chic.
Mickey Go Local is located at Raffles City Shopping Centre, Level 1. Make sure you visit the pop-up store and the display of Mickeys from now until 29 August, 2018!
