6 MOMENTS IN SLEEPING BEAUTY THAT STILL MAKES US GO “OMG!”
By Oh My Disney
Did you know that this year marks the 60th anniversary of Sleeping Beauty?
Sleeping Beauty is among the most beloved animated movies of all time. Not only is the animation absolutely beautiful, it is the perfect mix of drama, romance, action and adventure, complete with a touch of comedy. It may have been 60 years since Sleeping Beauty made its debut on the big screen in 1959, but we’re always down for a re-watch – whenever, wherever. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, we look at the moments in Sleeping Beauty that still make us go “OMG!” despite us having seen it more times than we can count.
#1
Everything is well and good until BAM – Maleficent crashes Aurora’s baby shower. Just when you think she is ready to forgive the King and Queen for overlooking her party invitation – DOUBLE BAM! The Mistress of All Evil drops a curse on the little Aurora. Talk about a party pooper.
#2
We hear Aurora sing the iconic “Once Upon A Dream” and just as she hits the end of the chorus, we hear a man’s voice because in comes the suave Prince Philip! In a red cape! Be still, our beating hearts.
#3
We cannot be the only ones going “No! No! No! NYUUUU!” in that scene where Flora and Merryweather have a wand-off. Alas, all that magic goes up the chimney, catching the eye of Maleficent’s devious raven Diablo. Not good. Not good at all.
#4
After everything the fairies did and with countless spinning wheels destroyed – RIP, spinning wheels – Aurora STILL pricks her finger on a spinning wheel conjured up by Maleficent. EURGH, THE FRUSTRATION!
#5
Two words: DRAGON MALEFICENT. Can we also take a minute to appreciate how the animators at Disney made the green flames look so real?
#6
“OMGGGGG!” But this time, it is an exclamation of relief. Prince Philip survives his battle with Maleficent – we were worried for a second there – Aurora’s curse is broken and King Hubert and King Stefan are on good terms yet again. The book closes and we see “The End”. What a ride!
